"Revelations" cd reviewed in Aural Pressure
Chaos Research is the experimental ambient work of Marko M Hautamäki, who has featured in a diverse array of previous acts such as the gothic band Two Witches and Majesty, a doom metal outfit. This album is a bizarre amalgamation, a disparate synthesis of pandemonium and subtleties far too numerous to analyze given the filaments that oscillate. Like a piece of crushed origami, one gently unfolds the crumpled paper only to find an image of a mandala within, where spirals of artery become the deities. Dark and fractious, the music while appearing disjointed somehow manages to find cohesion, if only a conjoining of fragmented soundscapes. No true melodies formulate song structure. Percussion perhaps is the only constant to find some stable ground, light electronic beats of ebm stylings, but even then the drums will splinter and divagate. Swells of sound are more like beams of light, holes of dark matter, seams of a universe that cannot be explained. Deserted Factory have moved into the realm of producing replicated discs and "Revelations" is one of those, featuring full colour glossy four-page booklet with silk-screened colour disc as well. The liner notes are brief - the song titles longer in word count.

Releases such as this don’t come along very often unfortunately, it is a well thought out and supremely executed piece of musical artistry.
There is a little bit of everything on this disc, from the ethno-classical sounds of “avatar” which sets us off in the direction of a dejected piano with a serious build up then takes on a more serious tone with the introduction of a violinist along the lines of Matt Howden, a purely rhythmic piece which could easily have been written for dance, the song itself is only three minutes long but the range of musical styles approached in this particular piece are many, from what at times seems to nod it’s head towards Bhangra then onto the classicism of the piano and violin.
The main undercurrent, the base if you will, is the usage of the voice as an instrument in itself. Be it a single voice carrying its tune to a lone drum and some pretty trippy ambience or a drone of male voices barely noticeable except for when the music stops and what you are left with is the hum. But more notably what you will hear is a full on chorus carrying you to the trembling heights of ecstasy.
Other than the voice we are presented with a knowledge of sound and rhythm, be they darkness or be they light is for you the listener to decide, overall this cd has a linear flow with a few rest stops along the way, hell!! There is even what sounds like an underwater tango replete with schools of screaming fish, but if darkness is what you desire then seek and you shall find the hidden stone.
The dance of Salomé is alive and well on this track. “You are not what you are supposed to be”. This is a task of lust, fire and piety, well presented… No anger concealed here. An epic classical build up which works its mania and despair into the mix and gets louder and louder, or let us just shrug off the piety bullshit and jump over the fires of Bel.
Some of the pieces are screaming for a remix, perhaps that is something that will come our way in the future I do not know, but I for one would be very interested in hearing the outcome.
This disc drops starts us off in the primordial soup, a dark place where life forms are struggling for their very survival, but we need not be afraid of the dark, for even in darkness there is something….
To see where we are heading it has been said that we should always remember where we have been. But cities like dragons awake from their slumber and do certainly spew forth their fire upon the earth, but since the city is still slumbering let us just keep our attention fixed there for a little while longer, no doves fly here
From the primordial soup to the factory floor, the die has been cast

Chaos Research - Revelations EP (Self-released)
This is the solo project of Two Witches guitarist Marko M Hautamäki, and
just in order to avoid any misconception, it's worth mentioning upfront
that you won't find traces of the Finnish gothic veterans in Chaos
Research. Marko carries on a multitude of activities with different
projects as well and it's time now to hear him solo. The three instrumental
tracks of Revelations are rather athmospheric journeys with a chill-out
character to them, inhabiting comfortably the dark realm and offering hints
of catacombal nature. At just over 13 minutes, this can be considered more
as an intro to the project itself. The debut full length should be out as
you read this and if following the indications of the Revelations ep, it
should go well with those enjoying explorations of dark realms.

"Revelations" ep reviewed in Zillo 03/05 (in German) Chaos research "Revelations" E.P.
